Binge Eating Disorder and ADHD

Like ADHD, binge eating disorder tends to be under-recognized,
under-diagnosed, and under-treated.

Top 4 things to know about Binge Eating and ADHD

The majority of patients diagnosed with BED are normal weight or overweight. Binge eating disorder is more prevalent than anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa combined.

Symptoms that accompany binge eating disorder include lack of control and marked distress.

Patient’s shame, embarrassment, or humiliation can make diagnosis challenging which makes individualized questions and a strong patient-clinician relationship important.

Our ADHD Assessment screens for binge eating disorder using the validated 7-item Binge Eating Disorder Screener (BEDS-7) in which the first question determines whether or not further questioning is required. The results of that screening are included in the final report so that the patient can discuss the best possible treatment options with their clinician.
