Meet David Hendricks, MD

Medical Treatment Provider

Patients served: Adults (18+)
“I trained in internal medicine as well as emergency medicine. I have spent the past 8 years practicing addiction medicine. Over the years I have had a lot of experience in treating ADHD, both with stimulant medications as well as non-stimulant medications. The most important thing that I have learned over the past 24 years of practice is that there is no standard approach to treatment. Patients are individual and each treatment plan needs to be personalized to each patient.”

I am a firm believer that there is no standardized treatment. Each patient is an individual and requires and individual approach. I am also a firm believer in an integrative approach. Medications play a roll in management but so does exercise, meditation and self care. Years of experience in the emergency department has taught me that the stigma of diseases really limits treatment to patients. That is something I want to change. ADHD, and like medical problems, are a chronic illness and should be treated as such. There is a neurobiological cause and it needs treatment. I also believe that it is the physician’s job to educate the individual on the different treatment options and discuss the possibilities. It is the patient’s decision on the treatment.

Clinical Expertise

After finishing my residency in Emergency Medicine I was blessed to be offered the associate medical director position at Griffin Hospital Emergency Department. I was elected to be the President of the Medical Staff, Hospital Board Member, PHO Board Member. In 2017 I was offered the position of Medical Director for High Watch Recovery. This opportunity changed my view of substance use disorder. I fell in love with the practice of Addiction Medicine. I was able to sit for and pass the boards to become board certified in Addiction Medicine. I have been the Medical Director at facilities offering both a medical detox as well as a clinical residential stay. I started a private practice were I treat clients suffering from substance use disorder via tele-health. All of my experience has taught me how prevalent ADHD is and how important it is to treat.

What made you want to join the ADHD Online team?

Over the years I have had a lot of experience in treating ADHD, both with stimulant medications as well as non-stimulant medications.

The most important thing that I have learned over the past 24 years of practice is that there is no standard approach to treatment. Patients are individual and each treatment plan needs to be personalized to each patient.

Curious about stimulant or non-stimulant approaches?

These terms refer to certain approaches to treat diagnosed ADHD. Mentavi Health / ADHD Online may provide stimulant approaches (certain medications under medical treatment that are generally considered Class II controlled substances) or non-stimulant approaches (medications generally not considered Class II, and/or therapy and coaching not related to medication).

A diagnosis and initial conversation with our treatment clinicians is key to the best path for you. The diagnosis is a key first step to determine if you have ADHD or other related conditions. Approximately 60% of patients with ADHD have co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression, for example. At the same time, patients who believe they have ADHD may not even have it. For those who do, there can be a variety of considerations into what kind of treatment works best to meet the patient where they’re at.

If you are not feeling right, your journey starts with the first step of diagnostic evaluation.

There may be a brief delay in service today between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM ET. Thank you for your patience — we look forward to assisting you shortly.
